Love your words, Fred. They are a reminder for me to keep pushing. I think Cohen does that with this song as well. He shows the cold and broken hallelujahs still reverberate in the heavens. And when it was interpreted by k. Hallelu- Jah, just about sums it all up. Get the latest news right in your inbox! Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email. As a country, America still suffers from the original sin of slavery. Half a century after Martin Luther King Jr.

God created all humans in His likeness, and the invitation to Christ is extended to both Jew and Gentile. So what do the Scriptures tell us about healing our differences on race? What Divides Us? To say we live in a time of division is an understatement. We stand at odds with our neighbors over our politics, our religions, our geographies, our places of origin, our genders. As followers of Jesus, we are urged towards unity. So where have we gone wrong? How might Christians offer an alternative to our moment, and help restore decency and dignity in our differences? Speakers: David Blankenhorn is President of Better Angels , which seeks to depolarize America by bringing red and blue voters together.

Science and Faith Where do we come from? Where are we going? The pace of scientific discoveries and the reach of technological prowess appear to be accelerating our understanding of the past as well as the future. We seek harmony between science and faith, guided by Deborah Haarsma, the president of BioLogos and former chair of the department of Physics and Astronomy at Calvin College; Francis Collins, the former head of the Human Genome Project and the current director of the National Institutes of Health ; and Alister McGrath, professor of science and religion at Oxford University, who holds separate doctorate degrees in the fields of molecular biophysics, theology, and intellectual history.

Yet as a society obsessed with novelty and youth, we tend to overlook and discard the aging. In search of wisdom and optimized selves, how might young people draw on the experiences and life lessons of our seniors? How can we treasure and deploy our seniors for all they have to offer?

Michael Gibson, General Partner at the Fund , believes that modern higher education has failed many of its students and that seismic changes in history come outside the establishment track. Despite pockets of deteriorating health in areas of lawlessness and violence, the world is generally moving in a positive direction. More people in poor countries have better access to caregivers, medicine, and nutrition.

Auteur: Liel Leibovitz. Samenvatting Why is it that Leonard Cohen receives the sort of reverence we reserve for a precious few living artists? Why are his songs, three or four decades after their original release, suddenly gracing the charts, blockbuster movie sound tracks, and television singing competitions? And why is it that while most of his contemporaries are either long dead or engaged in uninspired nostalgia tours, Cohen is at the peak of his powers and popularity?

Main navigation

These are the questions at the heart of A Broken Hallelujah, a meditation on the singer, his music, and the ideas and beliefs at its core. Granted extraordinary access to Cohen's personal papers, Liel Leibovitz examines the intricacies of the man whose performing career began with a crippling bout of stage fright, yet who, only a few years later, tamed a rowdy crowd on the Isle of Wight, preventing further violence; the artist who had gone from a successful world tour and a movie star girlfriend to a long residency in a remote Zen retreat; and the rare spiritual seeker for whom the principles of traditional Judaism, the tenets of Zen Buddhism, and the iconography of Christianity all align.

The portrait that emerges is that of an artist attuned to notions of justice, lust, longing, loneliness, and redemption, and possessing the sort of voice and vision commonly reserved only for the prophets. More than just an account of Cohen's life, A Broken Hallelujah is an intimate look at the artist that is as emotionally astute as it is philosophically observant.
